TEACHERS CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

International Turkish Hope School (ITHS) held its Monthly Workshop program on August 12, 2017 from 9:45 am to 1:30 pm as a part of the Teachers Continuous Professional Development Program.

Session 1
The first session was a seminar conducted by Lt. Col. Sarwar Bin Quasem (PSC), Commanding Officer, RAB. In the beginning of his presentation he introduced the role of RAB in fighting terrorism, drug addiction, and also providing emergency assistance. The presentation continued to show the effects of substance abuse on individuals and society. He also stressed on the role teachers and parents can play in the prevention of drug addiction. The second part of the session mostly highlighted on the influencing factors of terrorism and its deterrence. Guidelines to spot radicalization among family members and students were discussed and role of teachers and parents in combating terrorism was also emphasized. The presenter also shared some of his life experiences, and concluded the presentation with some information on how diligently RAB has been working to curb terrorism in Bangladesh.

Session 2
The second seminar was conducted by Mr. Saidur Rahman, the Country Manager of Pearson Edexcel and Mr. Saidur Rahman the Country Director of Pearson Edexcel. The presentation began with a brief overview of Pearson and the different qualification that it provides. The highlight of the session was the changes that had been introduced in the IGCSE, GCSE, and IAL which included alterations in the syllabus, but most importantly the grading system. The new grading system which has already been adopted in the UK is a 9 -1 grading scale which will soon replace the current A* - G grading scale in Bangladesh for the examinations taken in 2018. They also provided some useful information regarding the new feature in their system that allows the teachers to go through their students’ corrected exam papers online. Teachers were suggested to make full use of this new addition as it will not only help the students to identify their mistakes but would also allow the teachers to better prepare their students. There was a short question answer session at the end of the presentation.

The seminar concluded at 1:30 pm.
